In 2023, we were delighted to host Oakham School students from the UK for their 12th year in Kenya. The students joined AV for the February half term to volunteer at Mutethia Primary School in Meru county and Sirimon Primary School in Laikipia county, both near Timau. The AV Foundation joined forces with Oakham School contributing the following at both Mutethia and Sirimon:
- 30 desks and 30 chairs for each school (which were sanded and varnished by Oakham students). An additional ten desks and chairs were delivered to each school after Oakham departed;
- Paint for classroom walls and blackboards to be painted by Oakham students;
- Paint for murals and teaching aids to be painted inside and outside the classrooms.
A huge thanks go to Oakham School for all their hard work to refresh both Mutethia and Sirimon Primary Schools – the staff and pupils are extremely grateful. We look forward to seeing Oakham School back in Kenya for their 2024 project!
